Independent, statewide storytelling on high-growth tech startups and research commercialization will launch in 2026
BATON ROUGE, LA (December 9, 2025) — Nexus Louisiana today celebrated Technical.ly’s decision to select Louisiana as its first market outside the Mid-Atlantic, with coverage set to begin in 2026. Nexus Louisiana will provide financial support so Technical.ly can hire a Louisiana-based reporter and publish independent, statewide reporting that connects activity in New Orleans and Baton Rouge with rising hubs from Lafayette to Shreveport and rural parishes.
Technical.ly’s expansion model is selective by design. The newsroom enters places that have crossed a meaningful readiness threshold: a visible pipeline of founders, committed civic and industry leadership, research moving to market, and partners ready to support independent, high-quality storytelling that serves residents and reaches beyond state lines. Louisiana met that standard, with momentum in energy transition, health innovation and logistics, and a growing push to better connect urban centers with rural communities.
“Louisiana didn’t just get noticed — it earned this,” said Tony Zanders, President & CEO of Nexus Louisiana. “Technical.ly’s selection validates the work happening across our state and raises the bar for what comes next. We’re proud to support a model that puts a reporter on the ground and keeps the journalism independent.”
The investment complements Nexus Louisiana’s three decades of statewide programming by adding a consistent storytelling strategy that surfaces programs and resources, translates university and industry research, and showcases Louisiana’s strengths to founders, employers and investors beyond state lines.
“We expand where the ecosystem is ready — and Louisiana is ready,” said Christopher Wink, CEO of Technical.ly. “Our job is to document the people, projects and policies reshaping the state’s economy and make that reporting useful to residents and decision-makers. Support from Nexus helps us scale; it does not determine what we cover.”
What Louisianans can expect:
- A Louisiana-based reporter focused on high-growth startups, talent and the local effects of technology
- Statewide coverage that connects New Orleans and Baton Rouge with Lafayette, Shreveport and rural parishes
- Service reporting that helps residents and small employers navigate programs, capital and career pathways
- Collaboration with existing local newsrooms to widen reach and strengthen ecosystem coverage. Technical.ly’s reporting can be shared with other collaborating newsrooms.
Hiring begins soon, with first stories slated for 2026. Founders, researchers and ecosystem builders can share tips and briefs with Technical.ly’s editors now.
